We have a few news bits to report for this week:
- The Sci Fi network announced that they will begin airing reruns of Moonlight on Fridays at 9/8c beginning January 23, 2009. The DVDs will also be available at that point, but we do hope fans will watch the reruns as well to show that the viewership numbers are still high for our show.
- Moonlight-Detective.com posted a brief update on Alex’s project:
We’ve had several inquiries about the status of Alex’s production deal at CBS and the project he talked about in our October 3rd interview, so I wanted to post a quick update. Alex is still working hard on developing the project and is still in talks about it. The development stage takes a while, so it’s not unusual for us not to have heard anything yet, and it will probably be another stretch of time before anything is ready to be announced. Once there is news, it will come from one of the trades (Variety or The Hollywood Reporter), then we can all celebrate together on his behalf.
- Due to some personal developments, Rueben has extended the deadline to send in items for the Keepsake Books for the Moonlight actors to January 19, 2009 (the day before the DVDs are released). For more information about the project, email her at ruebenpreymate at gmail dot com.
Many apologies for the delay in posting these photos - they were buried in my InBox and I only just found them again! A couple of fans scouted out the busses in Los Angeles that are carrying our ads. They read: “Sometimes…even a hero needs a hero. Help save MOONLIGHT.”

After a long dry spell, we’ve had a busy week in the Moonlight fandom! Here’s the news round-up:
- Moonlight is coming to Region 1 DVD on January 20, 2009! Pre-order your copy at Amazon.com or plan to pick up your set at your favorite retailer. The 4-disc set will contain all 16 episodes plus currently unannounced bonus features.
- Rueben has updated information for the Keepsake Books Project, primarily noting that the deadline to submit items has been changed to November 14, 2008. Read more here.
- We’ve also received reports that the bus ads have been sighted in Los Angeles and we welcome those who may just now be joining us in the fight for more Moonlight. For a look at what we’re doing now, please read the Current Campaigns section.
Since Comic Con and Joel Silver’s statement that “Moonlight has been shelved”, Operation: Renew Moonlight has been taking a break from campaigning until such a time as the collective might of Moonlighters is needed again. We do have some news to share, however:
- We have been informed that the bus ads will be appearing in Los Angeles this week, keeping Moonlight in the minds of TPTB.
- Fans who would like to write to Joel Silver and request a Moonlight movie should use the following address:
Silver Pictures
4000 Warner Blvd
Bldg 90
Burbank, CA 91522
- Warner Home Video is expected to make an announcement about the US DVD release in the next couple of weeks. Rumors are circulating that the DVDs will be available in January 2009; we will post an update as soon as a release date is confirmed.
- The Moonlight Gala is scheduled for Halloween weekend and features an appearance by Brian White (Lt. Carl Davis). Get more information here.
Interested in continuing good work in the name of Moonlight? Check out the following campaign put together by our international Moonlighters:
At Moonlightline en Español we are organizing a worldwide campaign to raise awareness of the whole Moonlight fan community and support the renewal of the show on TV, joining the philanthropic activities that American Moonlight fans have been conducting for the same purposes.
We have chosen September 28th, the anniversary of ML’s premiere in the USA, as a day when fans from around the world make a monetary donation to the Red Cross in Moonlight’s name.
The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies is helping us to organize the collection and to report of the total funds raised. The donations will go to their global fund, for them to decide how to use them according to the needs of different Red Cross programs around the world. We plan to inform the media and the TV networks and cable channels in the USA about what we achieve in the campaign.
Because Moonlight has united the world.
The instructions on how to make donations are available in a variety of languages at the campaign website.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Alex O’Loughlin has signed on for a one-year holding deal with CBS. Under this deal, Alex will star in a new series project for CBS that will be developed by top TV producer Mark Gordon, whose ABC Studio-based company is behind such series as ABC’s Grey’s Anatomy, Lifetime’s Army Wives and CBS’ Criminal Minds. Alex will also have the opportunity to pitch theatrical projects to CBS Films. As always, we want to support Alex and his career and look forward to having him back on our television screens.
Moonlight Gala is a 3-day fan celebration & charity fundraising event benefitting The American Red Cross, and sponsored by theBuzzWire.net. This year’s event will be held Halloween Weekend (10/31 - 11/02) at the Renaissance Hotel & Convention Center in Schaumburg, IL.

We’ve just received words that our ads to find a new home for Moonlight will start appearing on buses in Los Angeles beginning August 18. If you see one, take a photo and send it in!
Now that we’ve all had a bit of time to relax and regroup, we hope Moonlighters are ready to jump back into the fray. We’re going to continue to send our love notes to USA Network and TNT, this time using a postcard based on our new billboard ads (download here).
We want the networks to see that the fans aren’t going to give up on Moonlight. We’re in this for the long haul. Also, we KNOW that not all shows make it, and they’re going to need midseason replacements at some point. Continued fan nudgings will remind them we’re still out here and wanting more Moonlight.

If you call TNT, they’re going to tell you that the show isn’t in their plans. Oh well. Lots of plans are subject to change. We know this from ‘real life’, so no surprise there. Don’t let this get you down. They may well have been told to say this when people call. They’re also sending out preformatted email responses with the same information. Don’t let this get you down. Show them how dedicated Moonlighters are.
Moonlight United has been working on some advertising efforts for several months now, and they’re finally coming to fruition. Moonlight fans in New York City will be the first to see our new ads - they’ll start appearing on taxis in the city over the next few days. Keep an eye out and send us a photo if you see one!
Also on the horizon (literally) are billboards set to go up in Burbank, CA (in the Los Angeles metro area). We’ll have the exact date when that will be going up to share with you soon.
Many thanks to Heidi and the anonymous donors who are funding the cost of these efforts. Our goal is to keep Moonlight in the minds of the decision makers in New York and Los Angeles, so they know we’re serious about wanting more Moonlight. Keep the faith!
